5 Tips for a Seamless Field Trip Day

Hey fellow educators! đźšŚâś¨

If you have been around, you know I am a big sucker for field trips. If you haven’t already, I wrote about why field trips are so awesome, check out this post.

BUT, I understand that organizing a field trip can be very overwhelming. Planning a field trip can feel like herding cats, but fear not—I’ve got 5 tips to make the day itself a breeze. Let’s dive in!

1. Do everything in small groups! 🤹‍♂️

Organize your students into small groups, and assign each group a responsible rep with their contact number. If anyone goes MIA during the trip, you’ve got your contact person ready to roll. I tried this with my most recent field trip and it worked like a charm!

Here is the link to the template.

2. Bring some emergency essentials with you! đźš‘

Stuff happens, so be prepared. Carry a mini first aid kit, a list of student allergies and medical info, and any necessary medications. You never know when that bandaid might come in handy!

3. Capture the Moment 📸

Bring along a camera or designate a student as the trip photographer. Document the adventure with candid smiles, discoveries, and those unexpected silly moments.

Or better yet, incorporate a “photo scavenger hunt” as the field trip assignment where students can take photos of the exhibition (of course, as long as it is permitted by the facility).

It’s a fantastic way to create a visual journey that students can both learn and reminisce about, and you’ll have a treasure trove of memories to share later.

4. Time Keeping is crucial ⏰

Be the timekeeper extraordinaire. Keep an eye on the clock and stick to your schedule. But hey, flexibility is key. Sometimes the best discoveries happen off the beaten path. Always include buffer time!

5. Snack Attack 🍏

Hungry students are cranky students, am I right? Pack some snacks and water. Trust me; it’s the simplest way to keep the energy levels up and the smiles on.

Save this for future!

Field trips are all about creating memories and learning beyond the classroom walls. So, let’s make it a day to remember! Safe travels, my teacher friend! 🌍
